To those of you who don't know Lyndon B. Johnson:
Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th President of the United States who took office upon the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, when Johnson was Vice President. Johnson was overwhelmingly elected President in his own right in his own right in the 1964 United States presidential election by a margin of 486-52 electoral college vote over Republican challenger Barry Goldwater, Johnson's popular vote victory was even greater -61% of the vote.
President Lyndon B. Johnson was a bigger President with big accomplishments: the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, public broadcasting, wilderness protection, a war on poverty, and other progressive accomplishments. But President Johnson was also known something else, and it not good: he as President escalated the Vietnam War so bad that the war has become a complete military disaster for the United States, the backlash against Johnson was so bad that he Withdrew from the 1968 campaign.
The Vietnam War was a conflict in Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia), between communists and anti-communist forces fighting for political control of these countries, Vietnam in particular, the country split between the communist North Vietnam and the democratic South Vietnam, the United States and the Soviet Union were fighting in a Cold War, which was the geopolitical tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union, two post-WWII superpowers who want global influence. Instead of fighting each other directly, they confront each other by fighting in proxy wars. That's when Vietnam comes in, it's a proxy war between the democracy combatants supported by the United States and communist combatants supported by the Soviet Union. Indochina was a French colony, they were conquered by the Japanese after the French fell to Nazis took them over, and was liberated by the allies. France tried to reclaim their old Indochina Colonies, but anti-colonial sentiment led to wars of independence against their old French rulers, those who led the anti-colonial resistance were the communists, and the communists won. In 1954, Vietnam divided into two Vietnams, a communist north and a democratic south, a similar situation in Korea. The Second Indochina War begun with North and South Vietnams fighting against each other and civil wars in Laos and Cambodia, all between communists and anti-communists within the Indochina, giving an opportunity for a Soviet-American proxy war within the region as both superpowers begin to snoop around Indochina for scores against each other. The United States has begun sending combat troops to Vietnam under President Kennedy, but Kennedy eventually wanted to leave the war...but he was assassinated in 1963, resulting in the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson, who was of course Vice President, but he was also a U.S. Senator who represented Texas who also elevated to the position of Senate Majority Leader who gained a reputation of getting things done, a talent that will prove crucial in his great society programs such as civil rights, voting rights, the creation of Medicare and Medicaid, and many other legislative accomplishments that gave his Presidency high marks and big stars, but when Johnson took over, he believed the domino theory, which states that if one country falls under communism, then that country's close neighbors will follow suit in adopting communism, and that theory applied to Vietnam, so Johnson escalated the war. Due to the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, Congress passed a resolution to allow Johnson to do whatever he wished with the war. Conscription existed back then, and the war becomes controversial by Johnson's second term as President, Johnson's Democratic Party got crippled in the midterm elections in 1966, and the backlash against Johnson was so bad that he opted out of the presidential race in 1968 after Bobby Kennedy (JFK's brother and Johnson's arch enemy) entered the race. Not only that, the war is a disaster for the United States, which also fuelled the American public's distaste for the war. The 1968 election was won by Republican Richard Nixon though he'll have to put up with a Congress run by Democrats on both fronts, the House and the Senate. Nixon withdrew the United States out of the war only to let South Vietnam fall to Hanoi rule and a unified Socialist Republic of Vietnam has become about. The Vietnam War is over by 1975 a year after Nixon's resignation from office in serious scandal ...and disgrace. The Cold War continues until 1991 with the United States victorious and former Soviet Union Russia licking its wounds.
Now to the Chawosaurian world.
2019 saw the end of the decade-long Chawosaurian Revolution and the Chawosaurian Civil War that had lasted from 2016 to 2019. Supporters of a "Continent Union" took advantage of peace negotiations and established a new federation of Continents called the Union of Continental Federal Republics (UCFR) or Continent Union for short, there are give CFRs at this point, the Federal Republics of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. The Continental Federal Republic border that separated the Federal Republics of Europe and Asia is called the Ural Wall and that's gonna cause a headache of problems for Chawosaurians who live at the new border. Civil unrest becomes a problem, insurgencies against the Ural Wall has become a bigger problem, provoking a Chawosaurian military response. A new Communist Party government headed by Shang Jong Parker was elected in October 2019, massively defeating the Capitalist government of Ekewaka Kalawai'a in a landslide. Parker after taking office in January 2020 ordered a military invasion to quell the Uralic rebellion, and the Chawo-Uralic War begins.
The COVID-19 pandemic provoked a temporary ceasefire on the war so Chawosauria can deal with the COVID threat, but Chawosauria's Uralic enemies exploited the time of the severity of the pandemic to train a new army, recruiting allies, including successfully recruiting Chawosaurians in the Caspian Sea to give the Uralic rebels aid, such as food, medical, and armed weapons, many of these weapons are Chawosaurian weapons.
The pandemic begins to show signs of stability now that vaccines have arrived, the Chawosaurian government discovered the Uralic Caspian alliance and that provokes SL Order No. I-2021, which orders "slow reopening" but also ends the ceasefire, leading to a reckless escalation of the Chawo-Uralic War and Chawosauria's loss of control over the war. The Parker administration lied about Caspian Chawosaurians aiding ISIL forces in the Caucasian region, which results in the passage of the Caspian Sea Resolution, enacted a draft for the war in the process. Chawo-Islamists formed together to declare Jihad on Chawosauria as a result of the Caspian Sea Resolution, Chawosaurian Administrations in Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and others who oppose the Ural Wall joined the Uralic Insurgents, and the widespread unpopularity of the war conjuring the ghost of Lyndon B. Johnson from his Vietnam grave coming to curse Shang Jong Parker.
Whether Shang Jong Parker will survive anti-war backlash or fall out of power because of it remains to be seen.
